| What is Transitions?
Transitions is WWU’s orientation and advising program for new transfer students and their families. There is no additional fee for students to participate in the one-day Transitions program only – cost is covered by the one-time $250 enrollment fee already paid to WWU. Students will:
- Learn about WWU’s academic expectations, programs and course registration process
- Meet with helpful faculty, departmental and student advisors
- Learn about Western’s student resources and support services
- Meet other new and current WWU students
- Enjoy lunch, explore campus, take their student ID picture and more
Transitions includes an optional Family Orientation for family members. The fee for Family Orientation is $35 per family member, and includes all family sessions, workshops, program materials and one lunch ticket. Additional tickets for siblings and guests may be purchased upon arrival. Family members will:
- Receive information on housing, financial resources, health and counseling services, and academic information
- Meet staff and faculty members
- Meet other new and current WWU students and family members
- Enjoy lunch, explore campus and more
Transitions includes an optional Overnight Program for students and family members the evening PRIOR to their Transitions date. The fee for the Overnight Program is $40 per student or family member, and includes the following:
- Dinner and evening programming with other new and current WWU students, families, staff and faculty
- A shared double-occupancy room in the residence halls, bed and bath linens
- Breakfast the following morning
How much does Transitions cost?
There is no additional fee for students to attend the Transitions day program only – cost is covered by the one-time $250 enrollment fee already paid to WWU. Optional program components include the following:
Overnight Program -- $40 per student or family member
Family Orientation -- $35 per family member
Math Placement Test -- $25 per student
Refunds are not available after the deadline (see below).
When is Transitions?
You can attend Transitions on any one of the following days:
Friday, July 18
Thursday, July 24
Friday, July 25
Students and family members are encouraged to participate in an optional on-campus Overnight Program available each evening PRIOR to their Transitions date.
Should my family members attend Transitions
Yes – We encourage family members to attend, and have a separate Family Orientation designed specifically for family members. The cost per family member is $35.
How do I make my reservation?
For fast and convenient service, reserve your space online – this feature will be available beginning Tuesday, May 27 at 10 am. After your request has been processed, you will be sent a confirmation indicating your program date and further information.
What is my PIN number for my online reservation?
Your PIN is typically the first six digits of your Social Security number (if you do not have a Social Security number, try entering your date of birth in mmddyy format). You may create a new password under the Personal Information menu.
When is the reservation deadline?
For Transitions on July 18 – Please submit your reservation by Friday, July 11. If you plan to participate in the Overnight Program, you MUST submit your reservation by this date.
For Transition on July 24 or 25 – Please submit your reservation by Friday, July 18. If you plan to participate in the Overnight Program, you MUST submit your reservation by this date.
Advanced reservations are requested and highly encouraged; however, we do allow walk-ons, and students can submit their reservation until the day of Transitions (Overnight Program excluded).
Can I fax my Transitions reservation request?
No – Unfortunately we are unable to accept faxed reservation forms.
How can I make changes to my Transitions reservation?
Any changes to your reservation must be made by contacting New Student Services/Family Outreach directly at 360.650.3846 or nssfo@wwu.edu – adjustments cannot be made online after your request has been submitted. All efforts will be made to accommodate changes requested prior to the deadline, but this cannot be guaranteed.
Please note: Students and family members interested in the Overnight Program MUST submit their reservation prior to the designated deadline; refunds are not available after the designated deadline. Family members who would like to attend Family Orientation can sign-up on the day of Transitions.
Can I come to the same Transitions day as my friend?
Yes – both you and your friend should select the same program date on your reservation forms, and send a brief message to New Student Services/Family Outreach at nssfo@wwu.edu with the appropriate information. All efforts will be made to accommodate these requests, but this cannot be guaranteed.
I cannot attend Transitions – do I have another option?
Yes – if you are unable to attend any of the Transitions programs in July can attend Transitions Make-Up on Friday, September 12. Detailed information will be sent to your mailing address and WWU e-mail account in August.
When will I register for fall courses?
Western students register for classes online using Web4U at www.wwu.edu/web4u. Registration each quarter occurs in three phases - your fall class registration will occur during Phase I in mid-September. Exact registration times are scheduled in descending-credit order. To determine your exact registration time, first you must know the total number of accepted transfer credits you have or will have by mid-September. Then visit the Registration Schedule at find your exact time.
Before registering for classes, we encourage you to visit the Virtual Transfer Center or contact Academic Advising at 650-360-3850. Explore academic departments to learn more about the academic majors available at Western. Use the Major Guides for a quick overview of the majors. Contact the academic advisor or a faculty in that department if you should have more specific questions.

I don’t have my measles immunization information – what should I do?
You will not be allowed to register for courses until WWU has your immunization information. For more information regarding measles immunization, please contact the Student Health Center at 360.650.3400.

Where should I park for Transitions?
Permitted parking will be available on campus in the C gravel lots on south campus. For a parking map of campus, visit http://www.ps.wwu.edu/parking/map/index.aspx.
Please note: After your reservation has been processed, you will be sent an official Transitions parking permit. To avoid ticketing, you MUST display your permit on the dashboard of your car. Please observe regulatory signs.
I need special accommodations – whom should I contact?

I need overnight accommodations – can I stay on campus?
Yes – Transitions includes an optional on-campus Overnight Program for you and your family the evening PRIOR to Transitions. Each student and family member who attends the Overnight Program will pay $40 per person.
Please note: If space is available, students and family members can stay in the residence halls before or after their Transitions date without participating in the Overnight Program. The cost is $24 per night/person for a single-occupancy room and $20 per night/person for a double-occupancy room. Cost includes bed and bath linens but no meals.
