We are pleased that you have chosen Western, and look forward to you joining our campus and community.  To launch your WWU experience in the right direction, plan to attend Summerstart advising and orientation in August.  Explore this Web site to learn more about Summerstart, and how best to prepare for Western

Your Summerstart Experience

Summerstart is your new student orientation, advising and early registration program at Western.  During Summerstart you will meet with helpful faculty and student advisors, learn about academic expectations and requirements, register for fall quarter classes, and become familiar with important student resources and services. You also will experience an overnight stay in the residence halls, explore your new campus and community, and have fun building friendships with other WWU students.

New Student Services/Family Outreach is committed to ensuring your successful academic, intellectual and social transition to Western.  Your participation in Summerstart is a significant first step in this process, and will help you feel more comfortable and prepared to begin Western.  Be among the first to meet with an academic advisor, register for your fall classes, and making connections at WWU!

Summerstart Dates

Summerstart is a 2-day program that occurs throughout August.  Choose the dates that work best for you and your family:

August 6-7 (Wednesday – Thursday)
August 8-9 (Friday – Saturday)
August 11-12 (Monday – Tuesday)
August 13-14 (Wednesday – Thursday)
August 15-16 (Friday – Saturday)
August 18-19 (Monday – Tuesday)

All reservations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis.  As space is limited, we encourage you to make your Summerstart reservation online as soon as possible, and make travel arrangements to WWU only after you have received your Summerstart confirmation.

Your Overnight Stay on Campus
During Summerstart, students will be housed in the Fairhaven residence halls located on the south end of campus.  Western provides overnight accommodations to incoming students at no additional cost as an integral component of the orientation experience.  Family members also may stay overnight on campus by participating in our Family Orientation with Overnight.  All overnight accommodations are shared, and include bed and bath linens.  Please bring your own personal toiletries.

Family Orientation - $50 per participant
We realize that a student’s transition to college is an important experience for the whole family.  Western’s Family Orientation is designed to address questions and concerns from a family member’s point of view.  Family Orientation includes information about Western’s academic expectations, student support services, residential life and opportunities to become more involved with WWU.  Although Summerstart and Family Orientation are separate programs, they run concurrently for your convenience.

Family Orientation with Overnight - $75 per participant
For family members who wish to stay overnight on campus, we offer a Family Orientation with Overnight.  This program includes all components of Family Orientation, plus shared accommodations in Buchannan Towers, located adjacent to the Fairhaven residence halls.

If you cannot attend Summerstart, academic advising and class registration will be scheduled for you on Monday, September 22, during Fall Orientation.  Detailed information, including your advising/registration appointment, will be mailed to you in late August.

You will receive your Summerstart brochure, including complete program details and reservation instructions, in mid to late May.
