Eagles, arctic loons, whales, sea lions, seals, puffins and harlequin ducks are just a few of the 291 species of birds and marine mammals that make the Islands their home. Join us on the 'Snow Goose', a 65' marine research vessel, for this catered cruise of Bellingham Bay and the surrounding area. Looking for a chance to see Mount Baker, the San Juan Islands and Bellingham from the water? Take a two-hour guided sea kayak tour of Bellingham Bay and enjoy the opportunity to try this popular sport! Come dressed for weather and outdoor activity. WWU students should register their families at the Outdoor Center located in Viking Union room 150. Registration for remaining spaces, if available, will take place at the Outdoor Center (Viking Union 150) just prior to the excursion departure time. All abilities and experience levels are welcome. There's no better place for the family to enjoy the beauty of Lake Whatcom than Lakewood, WWU's complete waterfront facility owned by the Associated Students. Enjoy the lake and spend time sailing, or rowing the single or double-rigged touring boat, canoes, kayaks, rowboats and wind surfing equipment. Use of sailboats and windsurfing equipment requires a sailing card; minimal fee for the use of some equipment. Not interested in the water? Try the lodge, BBQ equipment or volleyball court. Relay for Life - WWU Track

American Cancer Society Relay For Life of WWU presents a weekend of food, friends, entertainment, and a fight for a cure. Relay For Life is an American Cancer Society event held on Western's track from noon May 16th until 8am May 17th. This overnight team event celebrates those who have survived cancer, encourages those who are fighting, and remembers those we have lost to this terrible disease. Students, families, and community members are encouraged to raise money to fund cancer research, education, patient services, and advocacy. Come to the reference desk and take the Library’s self-guided Passport Tour. Enjoy the traveler’s tips, collect visas at each of the service desks, and learn about the many resources available in the Library. Or take the grand stone staircase to the 4th floor and visit the Rotunda, once the center of the 1928 building. Alternately, use your portable media player (i.e. ipod) and take a Library Audio Tour - (www.library.wwu.edu/ref/inst/podcast). End either tour with a stop at the reference desk for a free souvenir. On Saturday only, between noon and 2:00 pm, librarians are available to showcase services and answer questions and Special Collections will be open to showcase materials. Additionally the Music Library will be hosting an open house Friday thru Sunday where guests can learn about the musical resources available to the university community.
