Student Coordinator of Publications and Communications

Position Classification:

Wage:

$9.15/hour

Reports to:

Assistant Director, New Student Services/Family Outreach (NSSFO)

Hours/Week:

30+ hours/week at times during the summer; approximately 10-13 hours/week during the fall, winter and spring; must be available for all program dates, some of which occur during weekend and evening hours.

Start date:

Training begins in December (to be negotiated); position begins January 7, 2013.

Position Description:

As a member of the NSSFO staff and team, this position is responsible for producing all in-house publications and office communication including social media.  With direction from the NSSFO assistant director, he/she coordinates all program information fairs, and maintains ongoing professional correspondence with WWU departments and community partners.  He/she works with supporting offices to develop publications.  He/she also works closely with two additional student coordinators, and the peer advisor to provide leadership, planning and support for all NSSFO programs and activities.  These include all orientation programs, family weekends, orientation student advisor activities, and general office support. 


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Be an undergraduate student in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 at the time of application
  • Be enrolled for a minimum of 10 credit hours during the academic year with plans to enroll Fall 2013 or beyond
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong computer usage skills with a basic understanding of Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, InDesign; familiarity with Photoshop and social media sources would be highly beneficial
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines
  • Strong organization skills with particular attention to details and accuracy
  • Ability to work effectively in a team as well as independently
  • Familiarity with University organization and structure
  • Must be available for all orientation training and program dates

Direct Position Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and produce all NSSFO in-house publications, signs, and other printed materials
  • Create and update a weekly e-newsletter to be sent to all new students
  • Lead the development of publications
  • Coordinate and maintain social media communications
  • Coordinate all program information fairs
  • Maintain professional correspondence with other University departments and administrators
  • Provide excellent customer service in the office, over the phone, and during all program activities
  • Serve as a positive role model and representative of NSSFO and WWU
  • Special projects as assigned

General Position Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the planning and development of all NSSFO programs and activities
  • Participate in the recruitment, selection, mentorship and leadership of orientation student advisors
  • Take initiative in proposing program changes, modifications and improvements
  • General office support, other duties as assigned
