Fall Advising & Orientation 2017 Schedule

(Subject to change - please check back for updated information.)

Fall Advising & Orientation schedule is designed to provide a complementary experience to the Summerstart experience. While Fall Advising & Orientation does not specifically replicate the Summerstart schedule, there is intentional planning to repeat a number of key sessions and opportunities in the fall to support your start at Western.

The Fall Advising & Orientation program has three key components.

1. New Student Orientation and Family Orientation on Sunday, September 24th (OPTIONAL)

On Sunday, September 24th, the New Student Services/Family Outreach office sponsors an orientation program for students and families. We’ll kick off with offering a casual catered lunch on campus, followed by a Welcome Session for students and families, and then distinct orientation sessions for students and one for families (Tips for Families). We’ll send a separate link in your confirmation email to sign up specifically for the Sunday lunch and orientation opportunity so we can plan for your participation!

There is NO cost for STUDENTS to attend the lunch and orientation (cost is covered by your Enrollment Fee); there is a $15 fee for each FAMILY MEMBER to attend (covers cost of the lunch, program and materials). We’ll continue to fill in schedule information on our website as we confirm details!

2. Academic Advising & Class Registration / Program Check-in on Monday, September 25th (REQUIRED)

All students are REQUIRED to complete an official check-in to the Fall Advising & Orientation program on Monday, September 25th. Check-in will be in Red Square, 7:00am – 9:00am. All students must check-in to receive your academic advising materials and receive your assigned academic advising and registration times and location. (Even if you attend orientation on Sunday, you MUST ALSO check-in for advising/registration on Monday morning!)

3. Workshops & Tours / Western Welcome Week Sessions (OPTIONAL)

A wide variety of informational workshops, presentations about student services, and tours are also offered the Monday and Tuesday prior to the start of classes. Students will receive a Western Welcome Week schedule that highlights many of the same themes of workshops and sessions that happened at Summerstart, including presentations by the Student Business Office, personal finance planning, tours of the Library and Learning Commons, tours of campus, and study skills workshops.

The online Western Welcome Week schedule will get updated in mid-August.
